Settlers Visa "Real child to receive dependence" category
A foreigner (applicant) lives under the support of one of the “resident”, “Japanese spouse, etc.” and “Permanent resident spouse, etc.” who have a status of residence. If you are a real child, there are three categories below.
The type of attached document differs when applying.
- "Category 1"

- 1. Documents issued by your city/ward/town/village office (all of the following)
- ① One copy each of the resident tax (or exemption) certificate and tax payment certificate (stating total income and tax payment status for the year) for permanent residents
- ② One copy of the applicant's birth notification acceptance certificate
*Submit only if you have notified a government office in Japan. - ③ Residence certificate of permanent resident (including all household members) 1 copy
- 2. Proof of occupation and income
- (1) If the settler is working for the company
- ① Employment certificate for long-term residents (1 copy)
- (2) If the settler is self-employed etc.
- ① Copy of the tax return of the long-term resident
- ② Copy of business license of permanent resident (if available) 1 copy
* Self-employed people must prove their occupation etc.
- (3) If the settler is unemployed
- ① Copy of deposit and savings passbook as appropriate
- 3. Letter of guarantee for permanent residence (1 copy)

- 8. Official documents proving the existence of your grandparents and parents (as appropriate)
Example: Grandparents' and parents' passports, death certificates, driver's licenses, etc. - 9. Official documents verifying the identity of the applicant
Example: Identification card (ID card), driver's license, military service certificate, voter's book, etc. as appropriate
*Items 7 to 9 above are required only if the applicant is of Japanese descent.
"Category 2"
- 1. Documents issued by your city/ward/town/village office (all of the following)
- ① One copy of the family register of the Japanese person
- ② 1 copy of the Japanese resident's certificate (including all household members)
- ③ One copy each of the resident tax (or exemption) certificate and tax payment certificate (stating total income and tax payment status for the year) for the Japanese person or the spouse of the Japanese person (the person with the higher income)
- 2. Proof of occupation and income
- (1) If you are a Japanese national or have a Japanese spouse working for a company
- ① Certificate of employment of a Japanese person or a Japanese spouse (high-income earner) 1 copy
- (2) If a Japanese national or a Japanese spouse is self-employed
- ① Copy of the tax return of the Japanese person or the spouse of the Japanese person (the person with the higher income)

Points to note when preparing application documents
- 1. Please submit all certificates issued in Japan within the period of 3 months from issue date.
- 2. If the documents to be submitted are in foreign languages, please attach a translation.
