How foreigners who are applying for refugee visas could convert to marriage visas

To change from a refugee visa to a marriage visa, you must first formally marry.
Since the marriage procedure is not a Japanese procedure, we do not know, so please contact the embassy of your own country.

You cannot apply for a visa unless you are officially married.

There are roughly five types of marriage visa:

• ・ Spouse or Child of Japanese National
• ・ Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident
• ・ Family stay (Dependent)
• ・ Designated Activities
• ・ Long Term Resident

You cannot choose which visa you will have, as it will be determined by the visa your spouse currently holds.
In addition, If your spouse is also applying for refugee status, you cannot change to a marriage visa.
If you want to change your visa:Marry someone who is not a refugee.

In order to change your situation from one in which you are still applying for refugee status, you should go through the proper marriage procedures.
